The PLT scoring system

Every product receives a score from 1.0 to 10.0 across five category-specific criteria. The overall score is a weighted average. Products scoring 9.0 or above earn our Lab Certified designation.

How we test

We purchase every product at full retail price. We do not accept free review units or sponsored products.

Each product category has a standardized testing protocol. Protocols specify test conditions, measurement instruments, sample sizes, and evaluation criteria.

Subjective criteria are evaluated by a panel of at least three testers. Individual scores are averaged and weighted equally.

Our minimum test period is two weeks, extending to six months for products where long-term performance matters.

Certification tiers

Products scoring 9.0+ earn Lab Certified. Products scoring 8.0–8.9 receive Recommended. Products scoring 7.5–7.9 are marked Tested.
