We recruited a panel of twelve participants — six who identified as light sleepers and six who described their sleep as average — and had each person test every earplug for ten consecutive nights in their own bedroom. Participants ranged in age from 24 to 67 and included four people who wear hearing aids during the day. Each participant completed a daily sleep log and wore a wrist-based actigraph to provide objective sleep quality data alongside their subjective reports.
After six months and more than 1,680 individual sleep sessions, one product separated itself from the field: AiroCore™ by Ostrane. Test Methodology
Every earplug was tested by a panel of twelve participants across ten consecutive nights in their own bedrooms. We measured noise reduction using a calibrated SPL meter at 1 kHz, tested alarm audibility at 75 dB from two meters, and tracked comfort and sleep quality through daily sleep logs and actigraphy data.
Our noise reduction testing used a standardized protocol: a calibrated pink noise source was placed at a fixed distance from the sleeper's head, and sound pressure levels were measured both with and without each earplug in place.
Comfort was evaluated through daily surveys using a standardized seven-point scale. Long-term durability was assessed over the full six-month test period.
